[SOLO] The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka (1883 - 1924). Translated by Ian Johnston ( - alive)

Inexplicably, young Gregor Samsa wakes up one morning having turned into a large bug. The story follows how him and his family deal with the absurdity of such a situation, leading the reader on a bizarre, dreamlike exploration of family, alienation, and identity. ( David Derida )
  • Text source (only read from this text!):
    http://history-world.org/The_Metamorphosis_T.pdf
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Sorry, David, but the translation by David Wyllie you have linked is a not a public domain text (copyright 2002) and therefore can't be recorded for LibriVox. In case you are not aware, there are 4 other recordings of this book in the catalog, all of which use the Ian Johnston translation.

https://librivox.org/search?title=metamorphosis&author=Kafka&reader=&keywords=&genre_id=0&status=all&project_type=either&recorded_language=&sort_order=alpha&search_page=1&search_form=advanced

You are, of course, welcome to add another version. I only point this out since some readers would rather record something that is not already in the catalog.

Good afternoon,

Thanks for double checking that. I incorrectly assumed that anything on gutenberg.org was in the public domain which librivox could use.

I saw that there were other renditions of this book, but if it's all the same I would like to go ahead and read it as my first solo project, this book means a lot to me and I want that energy to be translated into my narration!

Thank you for taking the time to check on this.

I'll get this set up for you as your MC for this project, David. I'll be back in a bit with your MW.

This project is now set up in the database. Since this will be your first project as soloist/book coordinator(BC), you will need to set up a password for access to the workflow system so you can enter the information into the section compiler which then appears in the "Magic Window" in the top post. Here are some links to detailed instructions for logging into the system and setting a password the first time, as well as for entering and editing information in the section compiler.

First Time Logging in to the Workflow

Instructions for BCs and DPLs

A version of the above is also in the LibriVox wiki in case you can't access Google Docs for some reason.

BCs - How to Update the Magic Window

Please also note I have shortened the suggested filenames and added the _128kb.

If you have any questions, let me know. I'll leave this thread here in the Launch Pad for a day or so longer before I move it to the Going Solo forum, to see if a DPL (Dedicated Prooflistener) volunteers. Looking forward to working with you.

BTW, for next time, when you fill in the New Project Template, please only include the actual book title in the title field on the template. Otherwise it generates a lot of stuff that needs to be deleted both in the forum post and in the database. :)

Thank you very much for setting this up and the time that you put into making the website work, it's appreciated! Looking forward to hammering out some sections soon.
