Hi dear,

Please don't apologize, I never really need immediate feedback. Always take your time in proof listening.

I have compressed the section and amplified the first 4:15 minutes since they were a bit lower than the rest of the recording.

About the repetition, I think it is because the pronunciation of Paysayenn and P. C. N. is similar. I have checked, and there was no repetition.

"My Latin quarter hat. God, we simply must dress the character. I want puce gloves. You were a student, weren't you? Of what in the other devil's name? Paysayenn. P. C. N., you know: physiques, chimiques et naturelles. Aha. Eating your groatsworth of mou en civet, fleshpots of Egypt, elbowed by belching cabmen. "

I am reading from the HTML version and there are no page numbers, http://www.gutenberg.org/files/4300/4300-h/4300-h.htm I think I will copy the sections I am reading and post them here if that would help.

And about the french pronunciation, I took a few courses in French, and I assume my pronunciation is somewhat accurate, but yes we definitely need someone who speaks the language to proof check it.

I experimented a bit and the kindle version of the text is searchable. The title in the MW is enough to take me straight to the appropriate text.

I haven't scanned the entire text. Do you know how much is in French? Do you think there will be portions of each section which will need a bi-lingual PL?

I moved this last chapter back to needs PL. Without time-stamps for the French sections it would be impossible for someone to spot check these areas.

Section 6 is PL ok. I have gone ahead and advertised for a replacement DPL since there appears to be French in most sections. viewtopic.php?f=21&t=62208

That's amazing. Thanks. and yes I have never read the novel but I think that we will have more than a few chapters with French in them.

Also, section 7 is up. :)

I'm going to leave it for the next DPLer. I'm just not confident with the French.

Linny,
I'm watching this project for Phil. Do you want me to remove you from the MW as DPL?

Yes, please. Unfortunately, I wasn't familiar enough with the text to realize I wouldn't be an appropriate match.

I think I will start writing in the notes if the section has any french so anyone can PL the file if it doesn't have French in it. And if it does, I will point out the location of the French text to make spot PL easier.

Also, Section 8 is up.

Can I claim Parts 5 and 8 for PL? I should be able to help with the French parts.

Section 5 PL Notes:

00:50: Second 'diaphane' should be 'adiaphane' which I believe is with an 'ay' sound, like 'atheist' is to 'theist'
01:14: 'nacheinander' is pronounced 'nach-ine-AN-der'
02:20: 'diaphane' should be 'adiaphane'
04:45: 'omophorion' is pronounced 'o-mo-FOR-ee-uhn'
06:11: 'drawns' should be 'drawn'
07:08: 'law of Harry' should be 'law Harry'
08:52: 'menance' should be 'menace'
12:59: 'M.' should be read as 'Monsieur'
16:59: 'non' should be 'nous' (i.e. 'noo')
17:15: 'slainte' is not French but Irish, but doesn't seem to have a consistent pronunciation, so this might not be wrong.
18:52: Thumping noise
18:55: 'veil' is as in a wedding veil, so 'vale'
21:06: 'quacking' should be 'quaking' (i.e. 'KWAY-king')
22:16: 'here' should be 'there'
22:32: 'ensablé' is pronounced 'on-SAB-lay'
22:57: I believe 'gigant' is a German word pronounced 'ghee-GANT'
24:29: Noise in silence

I have emboldened the ones that are most important. The others might be too much information for a Standard PL, so ignore if needed.

Section 8 PL Notes:

00:26: Noticeable background noise
00:59: 'change' should be 'stage'
01:02: 'draught' is a British spelling of 'draft' and is pronounced the same.
02:20: 'down on her backbone' should be 'down his backbone'
06:06: 'Keep it up a bit' should be 'keep it a bit'

07:59: 'swelt' should be 'welt'
09:19: 'houghs' is pronounced 'hocks'
09:40: 'Three' should be 'There'
10:51: 'With a lark' should be 'What a lark'
13:20: 'Crackling' should be 'Cracking'
14:19: 'on the parade' should be 'on parade'
14:21: 'batoon' should be 'baton'
14:36: 'Esq.' should be read as 'Esquire'
14:47: 'on the parade' should be 'on parade'
17:39: 'Lyons' is pronounced differently here than it was at 17:36. I think the first way is right.
18:27: I believe this should be 'bow' as in 'bow and arrow'
19:59: 'batoon' should be 'baton'
20:11: 'vack' should be 'back'
20:45: 'fury' should be 'furry'
21:57: 'Valise and I' should be 'Valise I'
22:40: 'Though' should be 'Thought'

Again, the bold ones are the one I think are most important.
