SOLO Summa Theologica IIIa - The Saviour: His Incarnation and His Salvific Acts by Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225 - 1274).

This project is now complete! All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/summa-theologica-13-tertia-pars-the-saviour-his-incarnation-and-his-salvific-acts-by-saint-thomas-aquinas/
The Summa Theologica (or the Summa Theologiae or simply the Summa, written 1265–1274) is the most famous work of Thomas Aquinas (c. 1225–1274) although it was never finished. It was intended as a manual for beginners and a compilation of all of the main theological teachings of that time. It summarizes the reasoning for almost all points of Christian theology in the West, which, before the Protestant Reformation, subsisted solely in the Roman Catholic Church. The Summa's topics follow a cycle: the existence of God, God's creation, Man, Man's purpose, Christ, the Sacraments, and back to God. (Summary adapted from the Wikipedia)

This selection of the Summa Theologica covers questions 1-59 of the Tertia Pars ("Third Part"), comprising a Treatise on the Saviour: the Mystery of the Incarnation in itself (questions 1-26), and on what things the Incarnate Son of God did or suffered in the human nature united to Him (questions 27-59).
  • Text source (only read from this text!): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/19950
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

All set up! I gave you 59 sections, since you didn't specify how many - so I'll leave the final count up to you! :-)

Thank you, Maria, the 59 questions let me already enter in all of the question titles. :)

Which sections I break down into parts will depend on the word-count of each question :?: , generally not wanting to exceed an hour on a given section.

Hopefully I will update this soon 8-) , which will be necessary since I anticipate recording some of the later questions of the project as they relate to the liturgical passage from Lent to Easter at present. :9:

Maria,
The project is now set at 70 sections after doing a time-estimation for each question based on its word-count, having chosen to break them into parts where the recording time might exceed an hour. Since I have done my homework, I do not expect there to be any surprises regarding this aspect of the project. 8-)

Maria,

Another fruit of studying the text of the project in greater detail was to realize that I should:

(1) fix two typing/punctuation errors:
replacing -
Summa Theologica - 13 Tertia Pars,The Saviour, His Incarnation and His Salvific Acts
with -
Summa Theologica - 13 Tertia Pars, The Saviour: His Incarnation and His Salvific Acts
(replacing the first "," with ", " and the second "," with ":")

(2) more-precisely describe the project, in particular identifying the ranges of questions (as done for previous projects): 8-)
replacing -
This selection of the Summa Theologica covers questions 1-59 of the Tertia Pars ("Third Part"), which concerns the Person of the Saviour himself: firstly, about the mystery of the Incarnation, whereby God was made man for our salvation; secondly, about such things as were done and suffered by our Saviour—i.e. God incarnate.

So far I have had two false-starts with the recording of this project :( ; once things settle down in my recording environment, I hope that within the next couple of days you should start to see 1-2 questions recorded here per week, at least for what is foreseen of March and April. :hmm:

Sorry to be bombarding you, Maria, but I just came across a slightly simpler project description that I had made last year at the time when I had offered a standardized set of project descriptions for projects 1-12 of the Summa spanning the Pars Ia, Pars I-IIa, and Pars II-IIa. Here, for the Pars III, I had foreseen for project 13: (which I actually prefer)
Then when we are ready, either for myself or for whomever it may be, for project 14:
This selection of the Summa Theologica covers questions 60-90 of the Tertia Pars ("Third Part"), comprising a Treatise on the Sacraments: the sacraments in general (questions 60-65) and in particular (questions 66-90), whether on Baptism (66-71), Confirmation (72), Eucharist (53-83), or Penance (84-90) - at which point Aquinas' composition of the Summa ended abruptly.

No problem! Sorry for not replying yesterday. I meant to, but it was a busy day!

I think I have fixed both issues!

And the second-half:

What is good is that I had estimated that the recording time for this question would be 59 minutes (based on the word-count and my average reading-speed during previous recordings), which it turned out to be accurate to-the-minute, which means that the time-projections for the remaining questions of this project should be fairly accurate...

Maria,
Just a couple of incidental points:
(1) Under the LibriVox "Catalog" option, after conducting a search using "Aquinas", I notice two things:
[a] there always seems to a duplication, that is, "Saint Thomas Aquinas (1225-1274)" appears twice in the list, with the sub-line "Completed: 11 books | In progress: 2 books" (with no apparent difference between the two search results, so no apparent reason for the duplication);
the first item that indicates the work "Summa Theologica", and gives access to all of the projects dealing with it, does not display project 13 (this one), so perhaps something needs to be tweaked from your end so that it shows up on that search selection.
(2) The working-title of this project in the Going Solo forum reads, "SOLO Summa Theologica IIIa -The Savious, His Incarnation -mb", whereas it could be adjusted to: "SOLO Summa Theologica IIIa -The Saviour: His Incarnation -mb" (the "s," replaced by "r:"; personally I only noticed that this morning).
(3) Soon to appear are other recordings from this section, already recorded and partially edited, except that I have been spending time on setting up the templates for each of the 70 sections of this project, that is, with the standard LibriVox introduction and conclusion which always brackets the actual recordings of the desired text.

This I am not certain why it is happening. I have ideas, but not sure. I'll ask the other admins. :-)

This is fixed! Something extra I had to do, and forgot about. Thank you for the reminder!

Fixed! Just FYI, since you wrote the first post, you are able to edit it and the title if you need to in the future. There should be an "edit" button in the top right hand corner of the post.
