Just touching base. I have been bogged down by life and health issues so this project got held up considerably. I have recorded some of the chapters. I just need to edit and i'll post soon. Btw, what is the recommended amplification for the recording? I think my recording may be a bit loud but I don't know what will be the best volume to record in.
thanks

Hello Wina,
I hope you feel better, and that Real Life is treating you better. Yes, it can definitely take over...! The volume of the recordings should be about 89 - generally anything between 87 and 91 is fine. (Does that answer your question?) If the volume is a bit loud in the raw recordings, you can normally deamplify in Audacity. (If it is very very loud, it might affect the sound quality somewhat.)

Finally! I just uploaded Chapter 1.
https://librivox.org/uploads/kathrinee/chinesewonderbook_01_pitman128kb.mp3
This recording is 00:31:05 long.
Progress has been slow because I have asthma and sometimes, it is hard to breathe. You will probably hear me wheezing on this one. I tried to fix with noise removal so it should be okay. I love to read and I want to finish this book so please bear with me.
Hope all is well.

chapter 1 PL notes:
I enjoyed listening to this so much-- it's a funny little story, with such a surprising ending. and you do so well with the character voices! I didn't hear any mistakes at all, but the recording is very quiet. amplify by 6 and that should get it to around 89db.
also, should the silence at the end be 10 seconds, since the recording is just over 30 minutes long?
I'm looking forward to the next sections.

just a few PL notes for chapter 2-- (I listened with my niece and nephew who seemed very captivated!)
at 6:49 you have "his father's" instead of "her father's"
at 24:53 it should say "not to forget"
25:37 I don't hear the "th" on "for thee" -- this one is probably not a big deal, but I thought I'd note it anyway especially because you did ask for feedback on pronunciation. there were a few other "th" words I didn't note that were perfectly understandable even without a clear pronunciation of the "th", but it could be something you want to watch out for!

Hello!
I really appreciate your comments and also apologize for not immediately following up with a better reading of Chapter 2. To be honest, I was a little discouraged since my accent has been really thick lately and I felt that I cannot continue to read this book anymore feeling inadequate to do so.
I tried several times to read the chapters over and over and over again and I just get worse and worse. So that being said, I will have to find a good day to read and hopefully deliver a better recording than what I uploaded. I don't know when that will be and I know that there are deadlines to be met but I don't know what else to do.
Thank you for your patience!

it is okay to take your time! your readings are really good so far and I love listening to the way you do these stories. don't be too hard on yourself-- I haven't had any trouble at all understanding your accent. even those "th" sounds I mentioned are really minor.
I'll look forward to your next chapters and readings, whenever you have them ready.
