The K-Factor by Harry Harrison (1925 - --) .

This project is complete. All audio files can be found at http://librivox.org/the-k-factor-by-harry-harrison/
The human race has reached the stars, colonized many planets and done amazing things in all areas of scientific progress. But humans are still humans and remain both honorable and not so honorable; some with high ideals and others with very low ones indeed. So why hasn't war occurred in several centuries among the hundreds of planets? Has man really changed? Not on your life it hasn't! Read how science has given man peace but at what cost? (Summary by Phil Chenevert)
  • Target completion date: --
  • Text source (only read from this text!): http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/22540
  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Thanks Dave. By having you agree to DPL before hand, I saved lots of time and trouble setting this up.

I'm working with the new LibriVIDEO site to see if we can make it easier for people to find things. And I'm not very good at it!! so when i finally get really frustrated, I will start reading to relax. :D

02-04 PL OK. A nice story. The central premise reminds me a little of Asimov's psychohistorians. You made some great (i.e. dramatic) end of section choices! Cliffhangers, all.

Yes, it reminded me of Asimov too.

And I modestly thank you. You will not believe the huge amount of planning that goes into these little things. You should not try this at home without proper supervision. And I can't believe I get paid for doing this .... wait. I'm not getting paid?

Next, and last for the time being, is an old fashioned pot boiler by E.E. Smith. I mean, with a name like The Vortex Blaster, how can it be anything else? here is the link to it. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=39512

One more thing. People seem to like these stand along novellas. The Machine that Saved the World (remember that one?) which was cataloged just 19 days ago, has already been downloaded over 11 hundred times. Geeesh. Who wooda thought? :D So you are contributing to the enjoyment of many SF listeners around the world.

Phil,
I'm glad to hear about all the downloads, both for you and all the effort you put in and for Harry Harrison. SF did begin with Star Wars (or Star Trek for the older crowd).
