Thanks for the "heads up." Saved me from checking the book. Time better spend having some espresso along with a sweet. We're watching a NZ police "procedural" (Netflix) and the topic of meat pies came up as a possible clue to solving the mystery. Kind of miss those.

My youngest son is a detective with NZ police (different surname) and has been writing a novel that has a lot of ‘procedural’ elements. Pretty geeky I think.

Last pie I had was probably responsible for the first ever case of food poisoning I have experienced. I’m off pies.

David - when you visited NZ - did you drive along the Kaikoura Coast? Last weekend we had cause to drive the road. It is so changed since the earthquake series -- the rock uplift is more impressive than the impression from images and television (we drove up when it happened to be nearly low tide) and it is now a heavy industrial area as they work desperately to reinstate the road which is our "main" highway. Not a very good experience for travelers, although the new rock platforms seem good for the seals.

70-71 PL OK.

No. We were told to fly to the south island from Auckland. Christchurch if my memory is correct. I don't recall the reason why that was recommended. We spent most of our time on the west (wet) coast. We left out of Dunedin. That was a highlight for our son because we stayed at the same hotel as the All Blacks who were playing an exhibition match (I believe). My son played rugby in college. The three of us and two players filled an elevator.
