Victory, by Lester Del Ray
The earth is undefended. A ripe, juicy, rich plum just innocently waiting for one of the many new and warlike civilizations in the nearby universe to reach down and pluck to plunder and rape. Well... undefended can mean many things. In this case, humans have colonized many worlds and found many surprisingly human like races among the stars. But when these human colonies are threatened and even viscously attacked by really alien civiliztions, earth does nothing to help them. Earth, fat, rich earth sits back and lets her own colonies be practically wiped out, claiming a neutrality that seems a thin veil for cowardice and deceit. How this happens and the story behind the story is what this exciting story is all about. (Summary by phil chenevert)

DelRay is always good.
Volunteer for DPL unless you have someone lined up.

The first section is ready for PL. I must say, this is an very engaging story by Del Rey. Quite a change of pace from 'humans against the universe' and it made me think. Thinking makes my head hurt. Image

Blessed with fast internet tonight, so these are all downloaded and ready for me to have an enjoyable listen!
Raining here in the foothills below Yosemite, but glad it's not snowing. California needs the rain! Tomorrow a shot drive down to Bakersfield, then Saturday arriving where we're staying new our daughter in Redlands, California. We'll have a busy few days, but will be planted there until spring.

You make me so envious with casually mentioning 'Yosemite' and 'Redlands' and 'snow'. It all sounds so beautiful to me in the flatlands of Louisiana.Image

Took advantage of the maintenance shut down to listen to this book, and I'm glad to report all sections as PL OK.
Off to the catalog you go!

Thanks for letting me PL this one. :)

I thought this was a very thought provoking story and enjoyed it too. As a nice bonus I got to emote lots of indignant anger and stuff.
