The next letters will be to M. de Pomponne. I expect a change of tone.

Stay well!

Hi Barbara,

Section 36 is PL OK.

The last letter to her daughter--it's sad. I am very close to my daughter and she to me.

My best,

Pam

That's lovely. You are both very fortunate.

Some more letters surfaced later. Mme de S died at Grignan 6 years after that letter was written. It seems she remained healthy but 'caught a fever'.

Best,

Section 38

M. d'Artagnan’s name is misspelt This was indeed one of the three musketeers.

"...your dear recluse takes his part in them" because in "sa part" the pronoun agrees in gender with the noun and it seems that the recluse was Arnauld.

Mme de S was taking a risk writing and sending these letters. She wasn’t always sure that they weren’t being intercepted and thus all the nicknames.

Hi Barbara,

Section 38 is PL OK.

These are very interesting sections. As you know, poor Fouquet was to spend 15 years in the dungeon at Pinerolo where he met a fellow prisoner, the Man in the Iron Mask.

Did I tell you I spent a nice day visiting his chateau, Vaux-le-Vicompte? We rented a golf cart to tour the grounds which my friend almost drove into the great ornamental pool. The little cafe there, is called "l'Écureuil" after Fouquet's unfortunate coat of arms, which featured a squirrel.

My best,

Pam

Thanks Pam, I remembered that and kicked myself for not having heard of the palace when I had a chance of seeing myself.

But, drowned in the great ornamental pool, what a way to go!

Section 39 is PL OK.

It's horrible when you know how it is going to end.
