The three friends; a story of Rugby in the forties, by Arthur Gray Butler (1831 - 1909)

This project is now complete. All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/the-three-friends-by-arthur-gray-butler/
This is a novel that describes the life of three friends while they are attending Rugby College. The work illustrates for the reader many of the boys' pranks, challenges, sorrows, and victories and, as well, gives a good sense of college life in the middle of the 19th Century. Anyone who looks back with fondness on his or her younger days of schooling will enjoy this work. (Summary by KevinS)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

I recorded this section a year ago, and then I got overworked and sick. I'm feeling better now and am glad that we are working together.

Chapters 1 and 2 are both PL OK. I wish I get get through chapters that quickly. I am assuming that the Greek(?) was correct. I find the life of the old public school English schoolboy so completely alien to anything I experienced, it is fascinating.

Yes, ancient Greek. I don't know how well I pronounced things, but I did some research.

The traditions of boarding schools are fascinating. I used to be a house master, but in America.

Chapter 3 is PL OK.

Chapter 4 has one repeat in it. "yer pull it out" occurs at 4:24 and 4:26.

So are American boarding schools anything like British ones? Not that I've experience with either.

Looking forward to seeing what happens next with the three friends.

(I am also glad that you are feeling better and able to continue with your reading.)
