Europe in Renaissance and Reformation 1453-1660, by Mary A. Hollings (1869 - 1926)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/europe-in-renaissance-and-reformation-mary-hollings/
In a small space the Oxford-educated historian, Mary Hollings, provides a panoramic view of a tumultuous age. We meet Cesare Borgia and Savonarola, the universal spider, Louis XI, Henry IV, France's best-beloved king, Sweden’s wise and courageous Queen Christina, and great generals, like Albrecht von Wallenstein and Gustavus Adolphus. The twin ideals of imperial unity and of one true church lead to two centuries of unremitting warfare from the fertile plains of Italy, through the alpine passes, across France, the Netherlands, the German states, to Poland and Bohemia. In the end Spain has begun her decline, Italy and the Holy Roman Empire are in fragments, and France, thanks to the incomparable statesmanship of Richelieu, is the ascendent power. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

MW coming up.

edit: The book title has no "the" in it. I shortened the filename a bit but would suggest making it even shorter (e.g. europeinrenaissance_##_hollings_128kb.mp3). Enjoy!

Oddly, the title has no “the” in it. Did I leave it in somewhere, because initially I thought there was a “the”?

It was in the filenames. I just wanted to make sure you did not put in the audio files. Harder to fix.

Hi Pam,

Section 1 is PL OK. There's one note for section 2:

10.56-11.02, mid-page ish p 7
...and by the Concordat of Vienna in 1448 [heard 1488] he sacrificed the Pragmatic Sanction for the sake of an understanding with Rome.
