This is pretty heavy going! With a work of fiction, one can at least tell oneself 'but it's only a story' when the going gets tough, but not here, alas.

I have uploaded:
Section 43: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_43_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (13:58)
Section 44: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_44_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (9:54)
Section 45: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_45_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (8:11)
Section 46: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_46_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (13:17)

Will there be any characters left at the end of this drama?
Sections 41 and 42 are ok.

It sounds like many in France were beginning to ask themselves exactly that question. Well, no spoilers from me!

I have uploaded:
Section 47: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_47_carlyle_128kb.mp3
Section 48: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_48_carlyle_128kb.mp3
Section 49: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_49_carlyle_128kb.mp3
Section 50: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_50_carlyle_128kb.mp3

And the last person left standing is...

... perhaps not a huge surprise (we'll see). Anyway, I have now uploaded:

Section 51: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_51_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (9:54)
Section 52: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_52_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (16:35)
Section 53: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_53_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (9:16)
Section 54: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_54_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (15:53)
Section 55: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_55_carlyle_128kb.mp3 (7:28)

What a journey, Susanne, for each of us (though in a different sense for us both).

I'm pleased to say that Carlyle gives each of us, in a way, a special mention at the end — which personally I think we both richly deserve!

Hello Peter,
can you please check the end of section 52? You didn't close with the usual "sign off".
All other sections are ok.
Thanks for taking me along on this "refresher" of the French Revolution. Carlyle brought it much more to life than my history teacher ever managed. :D

Thank you, Susanne! That's pretty much how I felt about Carlyle's History, too. It's not hard to see why writers like Charles Dickens and Mark Twain were impressed by it.

Thanks, too, for noticing that omission in section 52. How to explain such things? I have no idea!

Anyway, I have uploaded a new section 52: https://librivox.org/uploads/craigdav1/frenchrevolutionvol3_52_carlyle_128kb.mp3, which is now a few seconds longer at 16:39. Can you please do a spot check?

We can then start on Conrad's "The Rescue". Dave Craig has kindly set us up here: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=89298
