The Causes Of The American Civil War, by John Lothrop Motley (1814 - 1877)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/causes-of-american-civil-war-by-john-motley/
John Lothrop Motley (1814 – 1877) was an American author and popular diplomat, who helped to prevent European intervention on the side of the Confederates in the American Civil War. In 1861, just after the outbreak of the American Civil War, Motley wrote two letters to The Times defending the Federal position, and these letters, afterwards reprinted as [this] pamphlet entitled Causes of the Civil War in America, made a favourable impression on President Lincoln. Partly owing to this essay, Motley was appointed United States minister to the Austrian Empire in 1861, a position which he filled with distinction, working with other American diplomats such as John Bigelow and Charles Francis Adams to help prevent European intervention on the side of the Confederacy in the American Civil War. He resigned this position in 1867. Two years later, he was sent to represent his country as Ambassador to the United Kingdom. (Summary by Wikipedia and david wales)

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Yeah, the middle name bit is offputting. I usually follow the title page but every other source I see uses the other spelling. Soooo...

If you find no corrections to be made we are finished recording this work. I had a pretty good high school civics class but never heard the legalities laid out like this before.

I put numbers in the title field as it was blank. If you want something else I should make the change soon.

Thanks for thinking of the numbers. I forgot, sigh... Looks good. Now to make a cover; found a graphic of the tattered flag that flew over Ft. Sumter during the siege. Thanks for all your help.
