A Lincoln Conscript, by Homer Greene (1853 - 1940)

All audio files can be found on our catalog page: https://librivox.org/a-lincoln-conscript-by-homer-greene/
A heartwarming novel which visits the last two years of the American Civil War. The center of the story is the conflict of emotions and deeds between a father and son who hold opposing views of the conflict and the surprising role that President Lincoln plays in wishing to reconcile the two. A novel of both pathos and rejoicing. (Summary by KevinS)

Target completion date: 2021-09-01

Prooflistening level: Standard
Prospective PLs, please see the Guide for Proof-listeners.

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the number of languishing projects on our server, we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't recorded anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).

Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process unless you are the BC or PL. Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Kevin,

I'll DPL this one if you'd like. It's one I produced with Distributed Proofreaders for Project Gutenberg.

Chapter 1 is PL OK!

Chapter 2 PL notes:

@00:05 - Missing phrase in the intro:
This LibriVox recording is in the public domain.

@02:26 - Missing paragraph:
… and yet I can't believe Lincoln is to blame for it."
For once the defense of Lincoln did not arouse Bannister’s ire. He was too deeply interested in what the boy had said of himself.
"And how have they treated you…

Thank you,

I think it's cool (if one still uses that word) that you worked on this title for PG.

Why thank you! :)

Over the last 7 years, and as a volunteer at Distributed Proofreaders, I've submitted to PG 7 books by Homer Greene, and have 2 more in progress. Of those at PG I've also recorded 3 for LV, and have the one in progress that you are DPLing. I enjoy both volunteer efforts immensely.

In fact, every book I've solo-ed here at LV has been a book I submitted to PG. Of course, for me, recording and editing is a much slower process to complete a book, than the post-processing of the ebooks. So I'll never record all the 180 ebooks I've submitted thus far to PG (but its a nice goal).

It's also very satisfying when other volunteers here happen to select one of the ebooks I produced. When I can, I sign up to DPL them. :)

Thanks again,
Don (DACSoft)

Thanks again,
Is the Distributed Proofreaders's process difficult? Perhaps it's something I could do.
