Section 21 PL OK

Really looking forward to the next chapter - I loved Trier when I visited so I'm keen to hear Violet's take on it. Of course she'll have seen it before all the bombardment it received as a border city in the war...

Thanks, Paul. I've been looking at the before [WWII] and after images of the cities, as we've journeyed with Violet. Incredible restoration efforts were made.

I think I'm getting old. I listened to this a couple of days ago then completely forgot to update the site.

Ha ha. You are such a very prompt Proof Listener, Paul, that I hoped you hadn't been cut down in your prime...

Thanks,

Section 23 PL OK

As you say, the end is near. I think there's a certain amount of foresight that the Empire is in its last days as well as the book in its last pages, though of course Violet wouldn't have known that.

Thanks, Paul. I opened Barbara Tuchman's "The Proud Tower" again to see where things are heading but....I dozed off.

Where was J. L. F. M. H's customary footnote of contradiction? Oh well, it's up to me: the lovely honey-coloured stone of Malta is not of volcanic origin.

Perhaps she'd never dipped into learning geology; even polymaths don't know everything...

Violet leaves us on the German/Belgian border. And I take leave of my excellent Proof Listener!

Best,

Barbara

Anne, how can I ensure that Ford Madox Ford (who contributed several chapters and lots of footnotes) gets acknowledged as an author in our catalogue entry for this book?
