EDWARD HENRY STROBEL (1855–1908)

The Spanish Revolution: 1868–1875 (1898)

ℹ️ "The Revolution of 1868 is the most interesting period in the modern history of Spain. It marks the transition from the Spain of Ferdinand VII, and Isabella II. to the Spain of Alfonso XII. and the Regency, and it forms, at the same time, an episode entirely distinct from the history which precedes and follows it. This sketch was written in the early part of 1893, from materials collected during my residence in Madrid from 1888 to 1890 as Secretary of the United States Legation, with the intention at some future day of making it a part of a larger work. The manuscript was laid aside when I re-entered the public service in April, 1893. On my return from South America a short time ago, I read the manuscript again, and it seemed to me that it might be of interest at this time." (Preface)
