Iwan Bloch

January 2024 Edit:
Alas, it looks like there's a lot of unreliable material out there. I've come across this article which might be advisable to read before considering English translations of Iwan Bloch's writings.
Thanks

Iwan Bloch seems to have been an earlier doctor studying human sexuality and sex in different cultures. I found some of his work, several of which are not yet PD. I only included the English translations as I cannot read German
The Sexual Life of Our Time in Its Relations to Modern Civilization
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/60968
Sex Life in England
https://catalog.hathitrust.org/Record/102847127
Not yet PD:
Anthropological studies in the strange sexual practises of all races in all ages (PD in 2029)
Odoratus sexualis : a scientific and literary study of sexual scents and erotic perfumes (PD in 2029)
Ethnological and cultural studies of the sex life in England (PD in 2030)
Marquis De Sade His LIfe and Works (PD in 2044)

Your welcome! I enjoy making lists so I will go through older book suggestions without links and update them. That way all the people who only like to read and not search the Internet for books by an author don't have to.
I did not check the Welcome Collection. What is it?

I was going to explain, but I think it's better if you explore yourself. It's mostly related to human health. It's a big trust with a peculiar collection and library in London, UK.

edit:
which is where I got my source for my contribution on Sue's viewtopic.php?f=19&t=94629&start=45
and a beautiful image for a cover for another project.

Maybe there's more PD hiding somewhere?

Unfortunately, that scan says 1933 on its copyright/publish page. So that one won't be PD until 2029DrSpoke wrote: ↑March 9th, 2023, 11:51 am Maybe there's more PD hiding somewhere?

If you haven't, please check this oldish thread. You might find other librivoxers to exchange ideas or expand your activity: viewtopic.php?t=94977elsieselwyn wrote: ↑March 9th, 2023, 10:58 am I enjoy making lists so I will go through older book suggestions without links and update them. Am I reading this correctly in that there is a request for this to be recorded as an audiobook?
The Sexual Life of Our Time in Its Relations to Modern Civilization

I would like to start on it.
I may be able to do the whole book, but so far I have only completed short projects, so I don't want to get in over my head. However, I would be willing to start a solo project and see how far I can get. I have a lot of free time, so if I am motivated it wouldn't take me too long.

You are correct - this was a suggestion for an audiobook to be recorded. If you have a few sections done for a group project and feel confident enough to start a solo, you can follow the instructions here to launch one: viewtopic.php?t=13513guava wrote: ↑April 10th, 2023, 7:40 am Am I reading this correctly in that there is a request for this to be recorded as an audiobook?

Hi! I recorded just a section for the ongoing Short non fiction collection (see first post for the link). Sue thought it could be interesting to have more of it, and I put the author's name as a suggestion of an author to explore - although it turns out not everything is public domain.guava wrote: ↑April 10th, 2023, 7:40 am Am I reading this correctly in that there is a request for this to be recorded as an audiobook?

"The Sexual Life of Our Time" looks to be about 303,000 words, or about 33-34 hours of finished recording. In other words, it's huge. I do not recommend it as someone's first solo project for this reason.
School fiction: David Blaize
America Exploration: The First Four Voyages of Amerigo Vespucci
Serial novel: The Wandering Jew
Medieval England meets Civil War Americans: Centuries Apart

Please note that very few translations and quotes of Bloch's writings seem to be authoritative, unfortunately.
It might be advisable to have a look at this article, before reading available versions of his work:
