Here's a round up of the SF works published on PG in May, 2021. I combined both short works and longer works in one post this time, but separated into categories. I will not keep track of the short stories being recorded since they are frequently recorded multiple times but I will try to note when the novellas/novelettes get picked up and keep that part of the list updated. If you decide to start a solo or collection with any of the longer works, it will be helpful if you comment in this thread!

NOVELLAS/NOVELETTES

The Evacuation of England - L.P. Gratacap
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/65588

Very early (1908!) science fiction novel positing that the collapse of the Panama Canal shifts the gulf stream, destroying England's climate. The Science Fiction Encyclopedia notes that while the science is silly, given what we now know about climate change, the author's speculations about the effects of a shift in ocean currents is ahead of his time. Gratacap wrote several other early SF works. PG has four, none recorded yet for Librivox. (full length novel)

The 13th Immortal - Robert Silverberg
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/65538
39111 words

""Who was your father?" the mutant asked Dale Kesley. And try as he might, Kesley could not remember; his past was an utter blank. But he knew one thing—the answer to his life's riddle lay in Antarctica, the once frozen continent, now an earthly paradise surrounded by an impenetrable barrier.

But how to get there? The only means of transportation were the spindly six-legged mutant horses. And it was suicide for Kesley to travel on the American continents. Two immortal dictators had set king-size rewards for his capture—dead or alive. But somewhere in the two continents there was someone who would help him, someone he had to find. The future of the world depended on his success."

Bring Back My Brain! - Dwight V. Swain

Worlds of the Imperium by Keith Laumer
https://gutenberg.org/ebooks/65792

DOUBLE TROUBLE FOR A DUPLICATE DICTATOR

For Brion Bayard, the discovery of an alternate world to Earth where history took a different turn in the road was not a pleasant experience. His kidnapping brought him some startling revelations. Here was a world in which appeared identical doubles of famous personages—including a dangerous and hated dictator named Brion Bayard!

His assignment seemed simple enough. Dressed as his double, Brion was to enter the enemy stronghold, kill the dictator, and take his place until law and order could be maintained.

But once having seen his mirror-image brother, Brion had as little inclination to murder him as some other people had to let him live.
