In reading for Kitty's final World Story, I noticed that we don't have anything about the sinking of the Lusitania:

The Lusitania was a steamship of the Cunard line, operating between the US and England. She was torpedoed by a German submarine in May 1915 and sank with 1200 of its 1950 passengers and crew. It was seen as one of the most atrocious war crimes of WWI.

Here are a few books on the topic, many from just after the tragedy:

The Lusitania's Last Voyage (1915)
by Charles E. Lauriat, a survivor
https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/53251
around 2 hours finished, perfect for a beginner's solo.

The Tragedy of the Lusitania (1915)
"embracing authentic stories by the survivors and eye-witnesses of the disaster, including atrocities on land and sea, in the air, etc."
by Frederick D. Ellis
https://archive.org/details/cu31924006692796
350 pages; probably a bit skewed

German submarine warfare (1918)
"a study of its methods and spirit, including the crime of the "Lusitania," a record of observations and evidence
by Wesley Frost
https://archive.org/details/germansubmarinew00fros/page/n19/mode/2up
290 pages, first part on submarine warfare in general, second part on Lusitania

Documents on the war of the Nations (1915)
by Christian L. Droste
https://archive.org/details/documentsonwarn01drosgoog
200 pages; various documents from different countries dealing with the Lusitania case. May be a bit dry...

Der Lusitania-Fall und die deutsche Wissenschaft (1918)
by Willi Becker, a German dissertation on the case
https://archive.org/details/derlusitaniafall00beck/
80 pages; seems to be from the point of view of German law; probably skewed in German favour; Fraktur.

I see that Lusitania's Last Voyage contains sections which are in German, followed by English translations. Must the narrator read the German language sections?

I'm glad there's some interest in these books! :D

Yes, we read the texts as written, foreign languages and all.
You can ask for help on here to either emulate or insert somebody else's recording, but the text must be complete.

Hi, Availle - When you say The Tragedy of Lusitania is "a bit skewed," what are you referring to? I thought you might mean the scans were crooked, but I looked at a few pages and they were fine. Thanks, Verla

Given this was written in 1915, I meant that the view on the topic, in particular on the "atrocities on land and sea, in the air, etc." is probably not very objective.
