  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

A couple of things you need to do in no particular order
You need to do the one minute test to get your settings right - the last thing you need doing your first solo is a first chapter that has been reworked several times and sounds muddy - it is much easier to work on 1 minute bits . If you are experienced and believe you can get all the settings etc right, then regard it as a soundcheck - professionals always do them :D
And you need to decide which solo you are going to start with and we will put the other on hold for a while.
Running a Solo as a beginner is a steep learning course, no point in making the same mistakes twice. :D

Hi, Anne.
I realized that the first solo I requested was already a completed audio book on here, which is why I would like to discard that request and read only this one, because I haven't found any others that have done this particular book. Do I need to submit my soundcheck somewhere, or is it only for my own personal benefit?
Thanks :)

I've removed the other project thread.

Here's info and instructions on the 1-minute test: https://wiki.librivox.org/index.php?title=1-Minute_Test
(It was provided to you in your Welcome email; perhaps it got lost in the shuffle.) :)

We do prefer new readers record a section or two in a group project, to learn how much work it is to record and (especially!) edit. In my personal experience, I'd say that 95% (19 in 20) of solo projects started by new readers end up not being finished by the reader, but abandoned. :( Please, after the 1-minute test, do a couple sections in a group recording before embarking on a solo.
Bulwer-Lytton novel: The Caxtons
Adventure/Travel: Across Mongolian Plains
Boring works 30-70 minutes long: Insomnia Collection 5

Moving this to Book Suggestions until you do your test and at least a section in a group project. When that's done, please post in this thread again requesting we move it back to the Launch Pad. :)
