A shorter project. I'll be ready to DPL.

Is it cleared as public domain? I don't see any notation of that on the Hathi record (but I'm not familiar with looking at them so I may not be looking in the right place) or in the version I found on Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/whatcauseddetroi00whit/page/n1/mode/2up

If it is available to record, I would definitely be interested in participating!

The Hathi record says it's full view, and if you click on it it says it's "Public Domain in the United States". Almost certainly one of many, many things that didn't get renewed.

I THINK it's PD-US because Hathi says it is. But it's definitely not PD anywhere else in the world.

So if you are someone (raises hand) who has never figured out how to access Hathi PDF files, can you take Hathi's word for it but use the scan that is on Internet Archive to actually read from...?

Tell me how I can help! I'll help read and/or DPL.

It's a great scan of the same material: https://archive.org/details/whatcauseddetroi00whit/page/n1/mode/2up

It doesn't count as a Government document does it ? So you'd need to prove it was PD somehow - Haithi has been known to be wrong about that loophole. Don't get me wrong - I think it would be a great addition to the catalogue.

My "thinking" isn't proof. :)

It's published by the NAACP, which is not a government agency but a private group. So I'm leaning towards it being okay.

Keep in mind if the NAACP (or some representative thereof) complains about copyright, we'd take down the recordings in a heartbeat, even if Hathi's right and it really is PD.

I suspect the NAACP would be pleased to see this in an audio version available to the public.
