May I also suggest this:
Della commedia presso i greci, i latini, e gl'italiani studii di Cesare Beccaria (1874) by Cesare Beccaria (1738 – 1794)
Unfortunately this has not been translated into English (but it should) as other more famous works by Beccaria. It focuses on Greek and Roman comedy, and it could be used as a much more interesting and unconventional alternative to typical school textbooks.
