There are also books of narrower or wider range on comparative mythology, besides many in which myth and custom have been pressed into the service of theories of society, civilization, and religion, or are adduced for the illustration of art and archaeology. But a comprehensive collection by competent scholars of myths from all quarters of the earth and all ages has not hitherto been attempted; for several important parts of the field, no satisfactory works exist in English, while in some there is none in any language. Wow... a monumental project. I’m particularly interested in Japanese mythology. But it says published in 1928 for that part— yet it says public domain. .. true? ...LJB

What an interesting find! I'm gonna mull it over, but I might launch a first one soon as a group project!

Just check the PD status carefully - many are not PD.

Well, rats about the J-mythology in this set.
Good thing there are other sources...

After mulling it over some more, I decided not to launch any volume after all (due to my own time constraints). I hope someone else does, though!
