Hi all,
I'm mulling the possibility of compiling the obituaries of famous historical figures...and recording them, in some collective way.
I don't think anyone has done this yet and I'm not sure how easily it can be accomplished...there will be, without doubt, hugely glaring lapses.

Does this sound like a worthwhile project??
thanks for any thoughts.

"Morality" is doing what's right regardless of what you're told!
"Obedience" is doing what is told, regardless of what is right!

We've had some obituaries in the nonfiction collection (I've read one myself), but not a full collection.

It might be fun to see what you can find; I would guess that important historical figures would get more than one obituary in different newspapers or so? You could probably collect them in a single section then since they seem to be pretty short on average.

Or maybe you can find articles where people have been pronounced dead prematurely - wasn't Mark Twain's death "exaggerated" at some point? - and the paper etc. had to backtrack?

All in all: sure, why not.
Cheers,
Ava.

Yes ... pretty famously announced... but not “obitted” early!

Thanks!

I like the idea a lot. Even if they are short, some are very famous, some were written for famous people etc. Too bad the obituary of Hercule Poirot is not PD yet, I don't think.

I'm going to do this!

Question:
Would it be better to provide a work of the most significant figures in our history (1 to 100) ( I would need permission to use this list...OR I could change it to suit ME, and therefore "make it mine")

OR

The significant figures in our history from earliest to modern times?

I'm quite sure that any "list of top 100 significant historical persons" will not be universally accepted as correct.
So: Do what you like.

A sorting by era/birth/death date sounds reasonable.
Cheers,
Ava.

Personally, I would go with interesting obituaries of known individuals and turn it into a series. If you wished you could categorize the first volume as Famous Outlaws and follow up with Famous Bankers, etc...

I like the idea, but I would strongly suggest you make it personal in its approach. Stolid, panegyric, humorous (there are such things), etc...
E agora, José?
