Some American Storytellers by Frederic Taber Cooper (1864-1937)

https://archive.org/details/someamericanstor00coopiala/page/n7

Published 1911. Cooper was an editor and author, and this book is a nice over view of some of the most popular authors of the turn of the century decade. The book includes some that have remained popular and famous like Edith Wharton and O.Henry, and some that were very popular at the time but are more forgotten now like Robert W. Chambers and Gertrude Atherton.

Thought it might be a good one to suggest because most of the authors covered have at least one work recorded here. The chapters are pretty short, and give an overview of the writer’s life as well as a brief look at some of their works. Each chapter can stand alone so it would also be good for short nonfiction collections.

Complete list of authors included:

Francis Marion Crawford
Kate Douglas Wiggin
Winston Churchill
Robert W. Chambers
Ellen Glasgow
David Graham Phillips
Robert Herrick
Edith Wharton
Booth Tarkington
O. Henry
Gertrude Atherton
Owen Wister
frank Norris
Ambrose Bierce
