I was looking up the VAD abbreviation on wikipedia - Voluntary Aid Detachment. They were volunteers for auxiliary nursing care, whose best-known contribution was during the First World War ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voluntary_Aid_Detachment ). There's a list on the wikipedia page of VADs who had published their memoirs. Among them was "Letters of a V.A.D." by R.E. Leake - which is a peudonym for Mollie Skinner. There are short details of Ms Skinner (1876-1955) on wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mollie_Skinner.

There's one copy of the book on archive.org. https://archive.org/stream/lettersofvad00skinrich#page/n5/mode/2up It looks to be an interesting read.

Looks like an interesting book. Some chapters from this book might be good for the WWI Centenary Prose Collection Vol. III.

I liked the glimpses I had. She had trouble suppressing her bitternesses.
