The Princess Thora
by Harris-Burland, J. B. (John Burland), 1870-1926

Dr silex is a wealthy, enormously gifted and studious man. After failing to obtain a copy of the mazarin bible, he very suddenly turns his interest in a radically different direction and begins planning a grand expedition to the north pole. But of the group of ships he was sailing with, none was ever seen again, despite search and rescue operations sent after them.
Ten years later, dr silexs good friend receives a visitor, a whaler who had been around spitzbergen the previous winter. He brings a curious metal case with the inscription, "whoever will take this toto sir john cordeaux, hanbury house, london, england, will receive a 500 pound reward". In thus case is a manuscript with the most curious tale, giving clues as to how the expedition vanished..
