another romance. this time our protagonist is member of the kings guard, stationed somewhere in the german-speaking part of europe. the kings guard is a collection of scoundrels and our protagonist is no saint, but he rescues a maid from being molested. he walks her to the palace where she says she works. her face is concealed by a big hood, but her ankle and her hand are much daintier than youd think. even though hes just been called back to england, the protagonist decides to stay.
