  • Type of proof-listening required (Note: please read the PL FAQ): standard

IMPORTANT - soloist, please note: in order to limit the amount of languishing projects (and hence the amount of files on our hard-pressed server), we ask that you post an update at least once a month in your project thread, even if you haven't managed to record anything. If we don't hear from you for three months, your project may be opened up to a group project if a Book Coordinator is found. Files you have completed will be used in this project. If you haven't recorded anything yet, your project will be removed from the forum (contact any admin to see if it can be re-instated).
Please don't download or listen to files belonging to projects in process (unless you are the BC or PL). Our servers are not set up to handle the greater volume of traffic. Please wait until the project has been completed. Thanks!

Hi Abby
Welcome to Librivox.
I applaud your enthusiasm, wanting to jump right in, and this would be a good first solo project, not too long or too challenging.
BUT we strongly recommend getting a bit of recording experience before launching on a solo career. There is a lot of work involved in doing a solo -- it's not just reading a book! If you look in the Readers Wanted: Books or Readers Wanted: Short Works forums (see the dropdown menu at the bottom of the page), you will find plenty of group projects begging for readers to claim just a chapter or two (or more if you want). You'll even find some cute kids' books in there, if that's your interest.
Once you've got the hang of the recording and editing side, this would make a great first solo, with the behind-the-scenes stuff that goes on there.
Have fun, whatever you decide to do.

Thank you for your feedback! I will sign up for a shorter work first. I found the Wonder Book project and that looks interesting. I do hope to do Prickly Porky soon.

Abby,

The Wonder Book project sounds like a great place to start. There is only one section still open, so be sure to put your claim in soon. But not to worry, there is always a nice variety of projects to choose from.

I'll move this over to "Book Suggestions". When you have a bit of experience and are ready to start it as a solo, just post in this thread and ask someone to move it back to the launch pad.

Have fun!

MaryAnn
