Hall died in 1943 so she's public domain in Life + 70 countries. I've suggested it for a Legamus reading.
When I get around to it, and if nobody's done it first, I'd like to read some Edward Carpenter.

Live in a Life + 70 or Life + 50 country? Record with us on legamus.eu too. It's like LibriVox but for those who obey different ridiculous rules on what's public domain.

Looks like two of his books have been recorded, which still leaves plenty for you to do:English Andrew wrote:Hall died in 1943 so she's public domain in Life + 70 countries. I've suggested it for a Legamus reading.

This appears to be a good resource:
http://www.glbtq.com/subject/literature_a-b.html
Far from one convenient list of PD works, it comprises a large number of fairly in-depth articles. To find PD works, it looks like one would have to pick a language, then era, viz (going backwards in English):
http://www.glbtq.com/literature/eng_lit6_20c.html (mostly non-PD, of course)
http://www.glbtq.com/literature/eng_lit2_19c.html
http://www.glbtq.com/literature/eng_lit5_romanticism.html
http://www.glbtq.com/literature/eng_lit4_restoration_18c.html
http://www.glbtq.com/literature/eng_lit3_renaissance.html
http://www.glbtq.com/literature/eng_lit1_medieval.html
Naturally, as one goes back, queer references often tend to be more speculative, coded, or simply negative, but readers should be able to find some useful stuff here.
There are entries for many other languages. It's probably to much to hope that very many of these would have a PD English translation -- although I'd suspect most of the Greek and Roman stuff would.
Cheers.

Partially for my own memory jog to return to this, and also in case anyone else knows that someone has done this already, I think I would like to take on this book. I know it's a bit of a long one, but I'm very curious to try it, and I really appreciate the topic and approach. If it has been done and I am missing it, please let me know. Otherwise, I think I shall try to record itMARTIN GEESON wrote: Hopefully, an American reader will one day choose Alec Waugh's The Loom of Youth (publ. 1917; author died 1981).

I don't see it in the catalog. Go for it. (P.S. I've never read this. I should listen to it when you've finished. Or PL.)WillLevine wrote:Partially for my own memory jog to return to this, and also in case anyone else knows that someone has done this already, I think I would like to take on this book. http://www.gutenberg.org/files/39184/39184-h/39184-h.htm is "A complete, cumulative Checklist of lesbian, variant and homosexual fiction, in English or available in English translation, with supplements of related material, for the use of collectors, students and librarians." I might sign up to read part of it, but I'm not sure there's the demand. It lists a few pre-1923 works, and quite a few works PD in the US if someone checked the renewals.

I doubt Chesterton's wife of 35 years, Frances Blog, would appreciate Mr. Maher's comments.BellonaTimes wrote:Bill Maher suggested that G K Chesterton was gay (not the word he used unfortunately) on his show last week.
As for LGBT content, although it's not explicit, check out chapter 13 of Louisa May Alcott's "An Old Fashioned Girl" describing the artists, "Becky" and "Bess" - not to mention authoress "Kate King".

Hello all,
I'm going to try to begin recording The Loom Of Youth by Alec Waugh in my free time (I don't have a lot of it, so it will take me a bit to complete it). I'm excited to be back to reading! I can't wait to get the first few chapters under my belt again so I can get back in the swing of things! Wish me luck!

I'd like to note the following checklist of quiltbag lit, put together by Marion Zimmer Bradley. Note the checklist is, itself, in the PD, apparently...
