If former President Roosevelt finds these books noteworthy, perhaps someone around here wishes to read and even record them. I wouldn't be able to any time soon. Sorry for any long URLs.

Two Noteworthy Books on Democracy

This is written specifically with two books in mind:

Progressive Democracy by Herbert Croly
http://www.archive.org/details/progressivedemo02crolgoog

Drift and Mastery by Walter Lippmann
http://www.archive.org/details/driftandmastery04lippgoog

But in the first paragraph, Roosevelt also mentions some other books.

James Bryce's American Commonwealth
http://www.archive.org/details/americancoma00bryc

Lowell's "Study of Representative Government in Europe,"
(Roosevelt is probably referring to Abbott Lawrence Lowell, "Governments and Parties in Continental Europe, 2 vols.")

If someone can find something closer, by all means discuss it.

Thayer's "Study of Cavour,"
(He probably means "The Life and Times of Cavour")
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Roscoe_Thayer
Thayer only has one book title with 'Cavour' in it.(two volumes)
