Since we can't record Hitty by Rachel Field (which is, I think, the most popular and well known "doll autobiography") I thought someone might be interested in a couple of forerunners:

The Doll and Her Friends, by Julia Charlotte Maitland, http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/21861 and

Memoirs of a London Doll, by Richard H. Horne
http://www.archive.org/details/memoirsoflondond01horn

Both are stories of the "lives" of dolls as they pass through the lives of various owners, usually in different economic circumstances from each other. I've always had a soft spot for this kind of children's fiction. :)

These books sound so interesting! I have never heard of such books. Julia Charlotte Maitland died in 1864, and H. Horne died in 1884. So both of these books are pd everywhere. Now I am going to look at them, Richard
Love gothic novels? Try Children Of The Abbey. Like surprising mysteries? Try The Amathist Cross. Looking for an easy read? Try Harriet's Choice.

I will be opening Memoirs of a Country Doll very soon as a project. Anyone interested in reading is welcome to follow because I will post the link here when it is done next week. Thanks for these great suggestions and keep 'em coming! :D
