What about finishing this one:
The outline of Science: A plain story simply told. (by J. Arthur Thomson)
It has 4 volumes, the first one is completed in our catalog (and on Gutenberg).
Two is on archive, (four is too, but not readable), and three can be found with a bit more sleuthing, I'm sure

I wanted to bring these authors' books back to the top of the Suggestions because it does look like a worthwhile series and Project Gutenberg has all 5 volumes of The History of Science, plus two additional volumes of "Every-Day Science" - these are numbered volumes 6 and 7 and I'm not sure if they are from a separate series or intended to add on to the original 5 volume series.
One reason I mention these is because it looks like most of the chapters in the books, especially in the two Every-Day Science books, could stand alone as short pieces for nonfiction collections.
