We should love to add Estonian recordings to our catalogue. :) The sad fact is that we don't have any readers who are able to record in Estonian, and no way of finding Estonian books which are in the public domain. All help is most welcome!

There are no Estonian texts on Project Gutenberg, but you may find some in the Project Runeberg catalogue.

We can only record works that are in the Public Domain in the USA (which is where all our files are hosted). In practice, this generally means a work must have been published before 1923.

If an Estonian book was published before 1923, it can be read here for LibriVox. :)

Tõde ja õigus was written in 1926–1933 so it can't be read here. :(
I can't read Estonian -- is this Libahunt..? http://et.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libahunt_(Kitzberg) if this is what you mean, it can be read here, because it was published in 1911.
There's honestly no such thing as a stupid question -- but I'm afraid I can't rule out giving a stupid answer : : To Posterity and Beyond!

Hello Babi,
I don't know any Estonian either... But looking at this Wikipedia page on "Estonian Literature" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Estonian_literature ) a list of a few options perhaps:

- the epic "Kalevipoeg" (first published 1857-1861)
- works by Eduard Vilde - as long as they were published in 1922 or earlier.
- works by Jaan Oks

This page also mentions quite a few poets - a good place to start out for Libirvox for you would be the "Multilingual Poetry Collection" - see: http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20686 - you can submit a poem in Estonian, as long as you make sure the poem was published before 1923, you'll be allright.

Good luck!

Half-wolf = a werewolf! That sounds like a great story, babi!

The book doesn't have to be in Gutenberg - we just have to know it is in the public domain (out of copyright.)

Can you borrow a microphone from someone..? Or have a friend who has a computer with a microphone built in?

Hello, we would like to read Andersen's Tales in Catalan (http://www.gutenberg.org/etext/27142).
We are Pomdeporta, Isolda and Charlotte19.
For the moment nobody has read anything in Catalan, we think, but we know spanish and english, so for us isn't a problem to translate the initial sentences.

we think that's all right, we are ready :D

Welcome, Charlotte!
I don't think anyone has read anything in Catalan yet.
It would be great to have Andersen's tales in that language.

You may like to do a test recording to make sure that you're all set technically-wise,...
You can upload tests and post the link, in a new thread, in this forum: http://librivox.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=21 .
The uploader's info are: http://upload.librivox.org
Image
In Step 1, choose tests - tests.

If you're ready to launch the project, as a collab with all readers already found, if I understand well, you'll need to start a new thread posting the BC template in this forum: http://librivox.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=28
The template to be posted there and edited with all the relevant info is in the wiki, linked to from this page: http://wiki.librivox.org/index.php/How_To_Become_A_Book_Coordinator .

See you around!

Hello! I'm from China. Is there anything up here read in Chinese yet? My boyfriend and I would like to contribute some Chinese readings, maybe poems by ancient Chinese scholars to begin with? Please let me know what you think. Thanks.

Ni Hao !

There are around 500 works in Chinese on Librivox. I'm not sure if all are Putonghua, many may be read in Cantonese. More would be very welcome, if you have the time to contribute a reading that would be fantastic.

The main rule is that the work must be in the public domain in the USA, and the easiest way to make sure that is the case is to make sure the version you are reading was published before 1923.

If you go to the advanced search page you can say which language you are interested in. The following link searches for all works in Librivox catalogued as being in Chinese : http://librivox.org/newcatalog/search_advanced.php?title=&author=&cat=&genre=&status=all&type=&language=Chinese&date=&reader=&bc=&mc=&action=Search.

Multiple recordings and languages are very welcome, if you find a work which is only available in Librivox in Hokkien, or in Cantonese, then you'd be very welcome if you wanted to read it as Putonghua or in any regional language.

As well as Chinese books in Chinese there are some Chinese works translated to English (the translation must have been done before 1923). There is a discussion underway at the moment to record A Dream of Red Mansions(红楼梦). Native Chinese speakers would be invaluable on that project, so that names are pronounced correctly.

If you don't find an current project of interest you are free to start a new one, though it can help a lot to first start by gaining experience with something small, like recording a Chinese poem for one of the Multlingual poetry collections on Librivox. Your suggestion of reading ancient Chinese poems is excellent, and would be very welcome there. Have a look at http://librivox.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=374899. That way you can make sure your recording settings are all OK, before starting on a bigger project.

Welcome to Librivox !
