Re: Questions about starting a project (split from another thread)

I'm excited about your plans, David! I've been wishing for more Middle English recordings so that I can learn to pronounce it myself :)

Re: inserting correct text

Also, in the future, it's usually better to re-record an entire sentence (or paragraph) rather than a single word. :)

Take care of yourself!!!

Re: Hello from Nebraska [Q about Downloading Torrents]

To download a torrent, you need to install a torrent client. I suggest qbittorrent: https://www.qbittorrent.org/ That's what I use on my mac, and I see that it is cross-platform so should work for you as well. No ads, no spyware. I don't think torrenting will use less bandwidth for YOU, though -- yo...

The magic of 1923

I've been activating lots of new forum accounts for people who have found us via articles about the addition to the Public Domain of works published in 1923! It's lovely to know how many people think this is a Very Good Thing :) Isn't it amazing to know that next year we'll have another crop of newl...

Re: Found PL error on completed published project

I kinda like it when I hear a repeated sentence or a missed edit now and then. I prefer our homespun, friendly, amateur quality to that of a polished professional audiobook, and it makes me feel very friendly towards the reader for some reason. (But yeah - a billion missed edits would be annoying an...

Re: Searching issue - can't find book titles with apostrophes

Here's the dumb workaround that I use:

in your browser's search bar (or at google.com), type
site:librivox.org eddi's service
Or whatever awkward title you're looking for.

Presto. Google's search function works a little better than ours :)

Re: How to record without a pc

Twisted Wave is a recording/editing app for iOS that should do the job. I tested it a little bit and it seems to work ok. You can't adjust the input volume on an iPhone (you can on an iPad) due to some kind of... something. I asked the Twisted Wave tech support people about i and they explained and ...

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

Not to beat a dead horse, here, but I just thought of something. Someone who reads a print book (or sees a play) doesn't know what happens next, doesn't know character motivations, story arcs, etc., -- the reader learns these things as the story unfolds and manages just fine -- so does it matter if ...

Re: How much do you need to know the work?

I read without prep. Always. No matter what. I enjoy the surprise of finding out what I will say next while I'm recording.

(Also I get bored easily  )

I hear that story a LOT in the newbie inbox! Like, "I've been listening to librivox books for five years and I suddenly realized that I could volunteer so here I am!" :9: :9: :9:

Re: constant repetition of public domain message

One of the newbies I whose forum account I recently activated said she discovered us because the narrator of the book she was listening to invited her to join us at the beginning of every chapter. What a lovely way to think about it!
