Re: [GROUP MUSIC] Christmas Carol Collection 2021 - ans
Another carol (or hymn) attached. If nothing else, this little exercise makes you appreciate the efforts and abilities of singers (of all stripes) a little more. (I tend to expect too much perhaps). It's a lot harder than it seems to make your recorded voice sound delightful...or even completely in...

Re: [GROUP MUSIC] Christmas Carol Collection 2021 - ans
Well, as much as I enjoy recording prose and poetry, I think this singing thing might be the most fun of all. (For the recording person, anyway...listeners MAY feel differently lol). This old time offering runs 2:05 . Not sure if I got the filename right (never had to add underscores before) but it...

Re: [GROUP MUSIC] Christmas Carol Collection 2021 - ans
It came upon a Midnight Clear Edmund Sears (1810 - 1876) English Text: Christmas carols we love to sing (various authors/composers) http://hdl.handle.net/2027/pst.000067569229 Page 19 The tune is my own improvisation on a traditional hymn tune, but not the one usually associated with this carol. mp...

Re: [GROUP MUSIC] Christmas Carol Collection 2021 - ans
"If you choose, you may sing PD carol lyrics to an original tune made up by yourself. If you are using your own tune, please make sure to say so." I don't understand. If it's a PD carol, wouldn't you be allowed to sing it to the original melody? Yes, by all means! Most contributors do sin...

Re: [GROUP MUSIC] Christmas Carol Collection 2021
Thank you both for the clarification. I see that the 1835 "Southern Harmony and musical companion" has the exact same tune and lyrics I know from the Oxford Book, though they title the song Star in the East... Will remember henceforth that the books as well as the carols need to be PD. Wh...

You're not the first person to experience this. I think what we figured out is that this happens when you use the "auto-fill" feature to enter yourself as the author of the book summary. You start typing your name, then when you click to fill it in, it also fills your name in further up i...

Re: [GROUP MUSIC] Christmas Carol Collection 2021
Would it be acceptable to use the Shorter New Oxford Book of Carols (by Oxford University Press) as a source? They do clearly list the dates of composition for both lyrics and tunes, and their version of "Hail The Blest Morn" is the one I know best... I could scan in the page listing date...
