Re: Hearing Test
I haven't done the test, but I did have my hearing tested recently as part of a scientific study I was taking part in. For the hearing test part they used special audiological headphones and took some trouble to position them quite carefully on my ears. I suspect this is as much a test of your headp...

Re: Improving my sound quality
Hi Erin, If you listen to those files on headphones you can hear a bit more high frequency noise without the blanket. A blanket won't completely attenuate the low frequencies, but it gives a good indication of what's going on. As you say, there isn't much difference which tells us that most of the n...

Re: Improving my sound quality
Hi Erin, I agree with Ruth; 22dB of noise reduction is an awful lot, and that's bound to affect the audio quality. You seem to have a real cocktail of background noises going on - that's the thing you need to address. Here's what I'd do: - Set up your laptop and mic on the desk a couple of feet apar...

Re: Samson's Meteor mic - best setup?
Hi Georgina, I haven't listened to your silence recording, but I'm sure Ruth's analysis is correct. I looked in to this problem quite deeply last time it came up - unfortunately I can't replicate it because it seems to be specific to the USB internals of certain computers. However I did build some e...

Re: Kindle query
Hi Peter, I think all Kindles show the same thing. The problem is that the Kindle version of some books seem to have poor quality illustrations (or omit them completely) compared with the paper versions. It's a fairly common complaint among readers. If you're referring to the Marcus du Sautoy book, ...
