etc. and e.g. in reading

I started to search this question in the focums, but the sheer number of "hits" made it nearly impossible, so I apologize if this has been asked and answered in the past. I am reading a book that uses etc. and e.g. in the text. Is it permissible for me to say the entire meaning of the two words? So,...

Re: SOLO An Elementary Study of Insects by Leonard Haseman

Thanks Ava. I'm still all thumbs in getting around the wiki and piecing together how to do things. My brain just doesn't work in hypertext.

Re: A Boy I Knew and Four Dogs By Laurence Hutton

The good thing about Latin terminology is that it is pronounced the way it looks, and each syllable gets the same emphasis. And "ch" is usually pronounced as a "k". You'll be fine. :-)

Hey Dale,

Sounds good. I'll go through the setup stuff tomorrow afternoon. I have to go into work in the AM to work on a software glitch that came up.

Thanks much!

The meaning of phrases set off by underscores in Gutenberg

I am looking at several books in the sciences from Gutenberg, and there are phrases throughout that begin and end with an underscore character. Are those phrases intended to denote boldface, italics, quotes, or underlines?

A Boy I Knew and Four Dogs By Laurence Hutton

This is more of a collection of articles, published as a book in 1898. It is 20,000 words, making the entire book longer than what would be called short fiction. It is available on Kindle, making it somewhat easier to read than the Gutenberg version. I haven't volunteered yet, and wondered if any ot...

Suggestion from a newbie TO newbies

I've fumbled through several DAWs for the past 4 years (doing VO for tutorials for my students). All of them seemed to be overkill, and very daunting to learn. I had the best luck with Adobe Audition, but don't like the subscription method. Quite by accident, I stumbled onto Hindenburg Journalist , ...

Hi, I'm Jeffery

Not a pro, I've done some screencasts for my students (college biology). I'm 66 and dreading the thought of retiring because I love to work, and I'm thinking of volunteering time as a book reader when I do eventually retire. Until then, I'll practice until I get my voice sounding like something some...
