Here is chapter 9:

http://www.rgrove.com/tolstoy_chapter9.mp3

for some reason my ftp software won't read the war_and_peace_01_#9_tolstoy.mp3 file name. You'll have to change the name of the file for me. But the mp3 album/title etc is correct.

thanks :D

I'll give it a listen, Gesine. For plosives, I use a pop filter positioned in front of the mike. I know what you mean about Descartes arguments. His mind is sticky and as I was reading I kept being caught up in his reasoning and forgetting to read, or trailing off as I was thinking about what he sai...

Thanks for the help, TC. I'll be getting over there soon. Right now, I've got 100,000 books to move! Our bookstore is moving, after 18 years at the same location. Whew! I'll be back in action in a week or so. I will definitely help with the proofreading and will be setting up the project in the near...

Library Thing website

Came across an interesting site called "Library Thing" where you catalogue your books online. Anyone know anything about it?

What a wonderful choice for a librivox project. One of my favorite novels. I hope you have a lot of fun with it.

Thanks, Nocturna. I guess we'll just have to wait and see if enough people
express an interest.

Good luck!

Harvey steered me to this thread while he and I were discussing the "background noise" problem on some of the released recordings. I've gotten up to speed here (I hope) and would like to contribute a few thoughts. An issue of hot debate here is how to balance the desire for great quality r...

There are definitely typos in my part. I'm just reading them the way they are written. Some of the sentences are so complex that I wonder if the listener will actually notice the typo. It's like trying to trace a line in a Jackson Pollock painting, if you know what I mean. I'm almost through editing...

I've been having some troubles with the download, but it seems to be coming through fine now. I'm looking forward to listening to this reading. Re: character aging: it's more a technical issue with your voice. The difference between 10 and 13, vocally, is minor. Now, the difference between 10 and 20...

Los Angeles Reading Group?

I was wondering if any readers from Los Angeles might want to get together and help each other with projects, readings, etc? I don't want to defeat the purpose of the website, I was just thinking it might be fun to work together locally....what do you think? Also, I work at a bookstore and would lik...

Welcome, Graham. I've been here at the site for several months now and have been very impressed with all the help I've gotten here. You might consider starting out with a small project and then work your way up. A site that contains thousands of public domain books (complete texts) is: http://www.gu...

Looks like we're up to 16 cents, so far. I think we ought to go all out and try for a quarter. :D Some good ideas there, RobertG. And you are right, any kind of acting is still acting. I meant that each medium (stage, screen, radio, voice over) demands something different from the actor. What the st...
