hmm. perhaps I jumped to conclusions.

I browsed through the site very quickly and theeir seemed to be a great number of very familiar titles.

I didn't mean to get anyone excited for nothing.

I guess I spend to much time around audiobooks. =)

suspected case of profit earning through librivox material

http://www.unabridgedbooks.com/index.php/cPath/28 They have plenty of titles which look suspiciously like our own. They have a few which you may download for free, although you have to register with the site. This is a site that is running business. I have seen all these recordings, offered for free...

Ok, I asked someone about this audio compression question and this is what I was told. The reason that speech compresses better than music is because it has a very limited and defined range of sound. Whereas music has a much broader range. Mp3s are optimized heavily for the compression of music rath...

I'm not saying that it is fundementally impossible to hear a diffrence between the two, but that since audio compresses better than music, the apreciable diffrence between the two shouldn't be nearly as big. I do know that starting with a 128k file and transcoding to ogg, then down to 64k without go...

The reason audio always comes at lower bitrates than music is because audio has a much better compression ratio than music and vocal songs. I do not know why you can tell the diffrence between the two, but my best guess is that it may have something to do with the recording equipment used by various...

Has anyone at librivox considered using variable bitrate encoding for audiobooks? I know that other places like literalsystems use it. It is suposed to be more space efficent because it will only encode more complex parts of the audio at a given max bitrate. and the less complex parts at lower bitra...

can anyone actually tell that there is a perceptable diffrence in quality between 128bit downloads and 64bit? a bitrate of 64k is already supreme quality as far as audio is concerned. Librivox is the only place I know of that offers their files in 128k bitrates. at a bitrate of 64k, it isn't going t...

Now for a cold and heartless review of our work here at LV

learnoutloud has a set of reivews of some of the work here at librivox... be warned, the reviewer is clearly judging librivox with professional quality standards. His ranking is so heartlessly "objective" that it even shakes me up. http://www.learnoutloud.com/content/blog/archives/2006/07/...

there was an earlier discussion about this subject on the forums somewhere. My general feeling is that if people have bad intentions towards you and would like to stalk you, they could easily do so for just about anybody. I have concluded that it is best not to be to paranoid about these issues, jus...

May I suggest The solo reading of Wind in the willows and A modest Proposal?

Both are read fantastically. One is a light hearted childrens clasic and the other...well..it is tantalizing to say the least! =)

point taken. I got a little over excited. We can't and should not "stop" others from selling as they please of course, but people here could give buyers much better choices, wheather it is here on this site, or on e bay by offering their own work. The only reason sellers can get away with ...
