Re: Accents vs. Mispronunciation

At no point did I wish to sound inflammatory. I certainly hope no one read my posts that way. I think some of us who have been around for longer do tend to dismiss the subject because its hardly the first time that this had been brought up. If you peruse the forums its has come up multiple times (th...

Re: Accents vs. Mispronunciation

Well, arguably, the OED does TRY to set the standard . But thats just my point, English, has so many variants, words stolen for other languages, and accents, that just because someone thinks its a mispronounciation doesn't mean it is. Which is why I think that the whole "people mispronounce thi...

Re: Accents vs. Mispronunciation

Remembering what thread this is in, for the record, as an American-speaking ex-Texan, everything I say, however I say it, can and will be adjudged WRONG by any deeply invested critic. [EOF] Exactly correct. Some people are nitpicky. Some are not. It really rests on the listener, because I truly bel...

Re: Accents vs. Mispronunciation

I think most people look up words when they don't know them, but what about words that you've been pronouncing incorrectly your whole life? Did you know that puma is pronounced pyooma. I'm the only person I know that says it correctly. Everyone else Ive ever heard says it incorrectly. Now, a person ...

Re: What was your first LV listen?

I am, in fact, postponing my "yearly listen" until your project is done Hobbitt. I've been filling up the pirate-void in my life by listening to Sabatini's works. I just finished Captain Blood and am now listening to Scaramouche. New.favorite.author.everrrrr. Perfect swashbuckling. YARRRR!

Bulwer-Lytton Contest

As we mostly seem to be Bulwer-Lytton fans here I thought I should let everyone know that the Bulwer-Lytton Contest has announced its 2012 Bad First Sentence winners. There are some doozies here! http://www.bulwer-lytton.com/2012win.html And in honor of BL's public domain works (which can be found h...

Re: [solo]The Elder&Younger Eddas/Sigfusson&Sturleso-arb

Some new sections have been uploaded.

As a note, September should be a little slow as I will be out of town, but I hope to get a few sections up before then.

Re: Perseids Meteor Shower- this weekend

I used to live in one of the darkest places in the United States, and when it was time for the meteor showers our Dad would drive us as far as was needed to get away from any cloud cover. I've seen meteors split into an arraw of colors, and its always breathtaking any ways to see so many shooting st...

Perseids Meteor Shower- this weekend

Hey everyone, thought you might all be interested to know that this weekend is the Perseids Meteor Shower! There should be up to 60 meteors an hour if you can get away from some of your local light pollution (or, you know, if you just have a cabin in the woods, feel free to invite me  ), and t...
