Re: Tamil Books - Copyright Clarification Needed

The safest thing would be contacting Project Gutenberg and seeing if they have an opinion. Many of our books come from there, as they have the ability to do legal due diligence that we cannot. You don't need to upload the text there before we can record it (though it would be great to have the books...

Re: Tamil Books - Copyright Clarification Needed

Hi Vijay, nothing's messed up, this is a good place to ask. :D This is all my understanding -- I am not a lawyer, and this is in no way legal advice. Sorry it's long, please let me know if I don't explain what I think very well. 1. Tamil books that are very old (at least a 1000 year old - these are ...

Username updated :) If you make a new post in https://forum.librivox.org/viewforum.php?f=21 and post your test link there, someone much better at sound checking than me will be along shortly to help out. :D Since you live in the US, and that's where our files are hosted, that's the copyright law you...

Well, Brenna, now I'm intrigued about your accent. And I also want to give a little medal to your co-worker, what a great way to join. :9:

Do you have a favourite genre you're interested in recording, or are you happy to explore and read more widely?

Lovely to have you joining us, Mike! Some more books in Romanian would be amazing, if you were interested in recording it? It can be a pain finding good ones published before 1924 (the current copyright cutoff in the US) but worth the hunt. :D

Re: Hi there!

Lovely to have you joining us, Becca ... it's always brilliant to have listeners jump through the microphone to read in turn. :D

Do you have any idea what project you might start on, or will you see what grabs your fancy once your sound check (1-min-test) is all sorted?

Re: The Demian Dilemma

This experience gives me a whole new appreciation of the Gutenberg Project. WOW! The PG represents a lot of volunteer effort! So true! I am recording a chapter as I correct the OCR errors, proofing as I go along. When Gutenberg accepts and uploads the book, my recordings should be ready to upload a...

JayKitty76 wrote: February 22nd, 2019, 1:40 pmI've never heard of a bot BCing or PLing before, would they do it perfectly? (Like word perfect PLing?) Or how would they be programmed to PL standard? I wonder if we've had a project where a bot actually did that. Probably not. Just wondering.
Noooo, I was just joking. :P

Re: New Blind Volunteer

Yes indeed, Paul was a great admin, active several years ago now, and happened to be legally blind. There's a lot to being an admin, but personally I think you'll have a still bigger challenge working out poetry, ShadowRain. <grins> It's not really my strength, I admit. Though, with such a lovely us...

Re: Observation (the bot thread)

Perhaps just that they are scanning the registration page. We probably can't tell the difference between that and someone filling in the form ready to join us.

We only accept human voices, though, so even if a bot did register, they'd only be able to volunteer to PL or BC. ;)

Re: Copyrighted (non PD) books on PG and status for LV recording purposes

Generally, they've been released under a 'some rights reserved' Creative Commons licence (specified on the bibrec tab at PG) and so wouldn't work with our Public Domain licence (which is equivalentish to the CC0 licence, but I haven't seen any PG books using that one.)
