How exactly does that work? I really wanted to record two of Ring Lardner's stories - but one was published in 1926, the other in 1928. I was thinking today that there sould be a steady stream of works entering PD. Am I wrong?

Julie, double check to make sure you have it plugged into the correct port on the sound card (microphone not line it, for example). Jo That was it!! I knew it had to be something simple like that. :D Thanks so much for all you input, everyone. I'll have to find a different story, as the one I chose...

I was able to raise the mic vloume on the computer itself, but on the edit>preferences menu I only get a choice between Soundmax and Microsoft Mapper Output. I'm not sure which it's supposed to be on. Also, I thought maybe I had it on the wrong setting for playback but it didn't come out on any of t...

I have a Dell desktop. The mic is a "Manhattan desktop boom."
I managed to raise the input volume, but when I playback I don't get any indication that there was any sound - just flat, no bumps.

Hi Kristin, At first I couldn't figure out how to make it start recording; I fiddled around with it, and it seems to be recording but when I play it back I don't get any sound. I noticed that the "input volume" control defaults to zero, but when I try to raise the input volume the cursor s...

Can't make Audacity work!

I just received my microphone, found a work that I like (that is PD); now I can't figure out how to get Audacity to work.
Can any of you experts give me some help?

Thanks,

According to my information, Summer was published in 1917. It is sometimes known as "the hot Ethan Frome." It's more of a novella than a short story. I've installed Audacity on my computer; just waiting for my microphone to arrive. I want to start out, though, with a Dorothy Parker story t...

Thank you! I've just ordered a microphone, so it will be here in a few days. Do I have to download software as well? I'm also wondering about works in the public domain - I really want to read Willa Cather's "Summer." I know a lot of her works are in the public domain, but I can't find Sum...

Thanks,

New to Librivox

Hi there, I'm new here, and just love the librivox recordings. I just listened to O Pioneers!. I would like to volunteer, as I dearly love to read out loud. I would like to read short stories, short non-fiction, and children's stories (I have 2 very literate children, so I get a lot of practice!). I...
