You may have got 'overdub' turned on by accident. Check Edit > Preferences > Recording > Play other tracks while recording
The preferences may have changed since my version of Audacity, but see if you can find an option like that.

Does the microphone have built-in noise reduction? It may be giving mixed results, so it may be better to turn it off and remove the noise using an alternative method. Has the audio been processed using Audacity Noise Reduction? If so, it's important that the noise sample used is truly representativ...

Spitfish is a rather old plugin - I'm fairly certain it's only available in a 32-bit version. You're almost certainly using the 64-bit version of Audacity, which isn't compatible. You'll need to find an alternative 64-bit plugin (which all modern ones are) assuming you can't solve your problem by so...
