Re: SOLO De Smet's Letters and Sketches, 1841-1842 - tg

Sections 8 and 9 are ready. Fr. De Smet was interested in so many things: geology, plants, and animals, everything about the Indians, and above all, religion. Such an amazing person!

sections 3, 4 and 5 are ready. Fr. De Smet really liked the Indians, but he also writes about some horrifying things they did.

Re: SOLO De Smet's Letters and Sketches, 1841-1842 - tg

Section 2 is ready. Letter 2 is pretty long, so it will be in 2 or 3 sections.
Lots of interesting info about the tribes who had not been in contact with the non-Indians very long.

Re: SOLO De Smet's Letters and Sketches, 1841-1842 - tg

Letter 1 is ready. My thought on the preface and footnotes is that they will not be of much interest to the ordinary listener. If a scholar is studying Fr. DeSmet, and is interested in that extra material, he or she would most likely want to read the book, not listen to it. So I am leaving out the p...

Thank you, Tricia.
Yes, De Smet South Dakota is named for Fr. DeSmet, and the Ingalls family lived there.

De Smet's Letters and sketches, 1841-1842, by Fr. Pierre-Jean De Smet (1801 - 1873) In 1841 and 1842, Fr. Pierre-Jean DeSmet traversed the wide and wild American West to bring the gospel to the Flatheads, who had sent multiple delegations from Montana to St. Louis, repeatedly requesting a Blackgown...

May I read the two parts of [16] Mrs. Lathrop in chapter 1, and [22] Maria Wendell in Chapter 10? Please let me know if that is all right.

Re: COMPLETE: Astoria; Or, Anecdotes of an Enterprise Beyond the Rocky Mountains by Washington Irving - ke

Kathrine, thank you for taking care of cataloging. I just noticed something, and in case it is not too late, was wondering if there could be a change made in the intro. I wrote one version before I started recording, and made some changes later. The catalog has the original version; but the revised ...
