Hi Lynne
I'm very sorry but I will be unable to continue as a DPL for this Chesterton solo as I am now quite ill and have had very bad news from the hospital today as things have taken a turn for the worse.

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread
Surely the best way to avoid this problem is to control your voice so you do not have any large peaks? This avoids the use of things like compression which only degrade the recording. Then if there is just the odd peak you can just reduce it at the editing stage.

Re: audacity fix for less clear, more muffled voice?
Sometimes -- but not often -- my pre-PL Audacity Effects edits result in my voice sounding less clear, less distinct, more muffled. When it happens, it happens after I do the following: (1) Noise reduction (2) Tempo (increase about 10) (3) Compressor (two or three times) (4) Amplification (down, to...

Re: Help I Use Adobe Adudtion! Noise floor problems
I found the noise floor in both those example perfectly good, and maybe a bit too quiet? I only listened for a few seconds and found gaps so short that the noise floor was not noticeable at all. Maybe you are a bit too close miked? For the recording gain level you could back off a few inches perhaps...

That's a long recording! My average these days is about 40 minutes, in the short stories collection, or probably quite a bit less.

Re: What if I Suck?
What is your longest? And your average? Just out of curiosity, in context of the conversation. The longest one I could find, going through my catalogue, was 62 minutes. My average seems to be around 30-40 minutes edited finished length. I don't read a lot of poetry which is usually quite short. I t...

Re: What if I Suck?
Going back to where several people have said something like "my voice sounds awful" or "I haven't the confidence to record yet ..." etc., etc. For me I think my voice sounded OK about 4 or 5 years ago, but now - it's pretty bad at times. I think this is due to ageing and ill heal...

Re: Looking for editing help with our WIKI
Maybe (I don't really know) it would be best to ignore Wiki and have the desired files on Librivox - then you could just give people a link to these files? I think people needing help might just find this just a bit easier. You could call the file "editing for beginners" or something like ...
