Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

It is good to hear that you are doing well. It has been a beautiful fall here. The sunset on the golden leaves this evening is gorgeous. But I had to scrape ice off my car this morning, so the end of these beautiful days is just around the corner.

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

I hope you have continued to recover well. You certainly don't let any grass grow under your feet!

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

Chapter 48 is PL OK. One could almost feel sorry for the people around Crosbie, too, as he takes out his bad humor on them, except that they are so unlikeable!

Hope your holiday has gotten off to a great start and that the weather cooperates a better than expected.

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

Thank you. I have indeed been enjoying the summer. Perfect weather, no smoke this year from British Columbia fires, and several fun family and community events. We feel spoiled, considering the difficult summer most of the rest of the country has been having. It's hard to believe it's nearly halfway...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

That sounds like such a lovely celebration! Congratulations to both of you!

Trollope was a little hard on poor Johnny in this chapter, I thought. It seems he's usually not direct enough to call someone a blockhead. The chapter is PL OK, and I enjoyed it as always.

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

I'm so sorry; I was appalled when I listened to it! Thank you for picking it up. That's what proof-listeners are for! You wouldn't want me to feel I was useless, would you? :) Chapters 43 and 45 sound great and are marked PL OK. All is well here. We've had several excuses recently for out-of-town f...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

Chapter 44 sounds great and is marked PL OK.

In chapter 43, correction at 26:50 sounds good. Something happened in the last paragraph, starting at 35:34, and a couple of edits might have been reversed. I'm sure those repeats weren't in the previous version.

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

So glad your trip went well! There is a section missing from chapter 43 at 26:50: "was a gentleman who managed most of his uncle's ordinary affairs,--a clever fellow, who knew on which side his bread was buttered. Mr. Fothergill" It looks like probably an just editing cut, as "Mr Foth...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

Could not tell at all that you had patched Chapter 41. It sounds great. Hope you had a great time on your vacation. We had a lovely Mother's Day celebration yesterday with all 4 generations there -- my parents, all my siblings as well as many nieces and nephews and grands. So much laughing! I was af...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

So nice you could spend Easter with family! The visit to Helen's family's home sounds fascinating. Chapter 41 has one small thing you probably want to fix at 7:41 "she" instead of "he". Chapter 42 sounded fine, and I enjoyed both very much. Bell and Lilly reminded me strongly of ...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

Do you ever wonder what Trollope was like in society? Did he sit in the corner and watch? Did he go home and try to sort out people's motivations and opionions? Or did he make good and close friends, talking to them about what they thought about and how they felt? His ability to understand and expla...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

The men are having quite a time of it these last couple of chapters! There is a spot at 2:51 wher I hear "They have been so determined" instead of "They are both so determined". Since this is just standard proof-listening level, I wouldn't call it out, but I think you like to fix...

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

It's probably a good thing to have a life so full that you have delays getting to the editing. Much better than being stuck in the house with nothing else to do! :)

Thank you for this chapter. Poor Uncle Christopher. He is certainly his own worst enemy. Chapter 38 is PL OK.

Re: The Small House at Allington - mas

I did indeed enjoy. The depth and complexity of Trollope's characters are my favorite part of his books. Chapter 37 marked PL OK.

Stay well! It doesn't sound like a good time to be sick in your part of the world.
