Re: 89db question

89db - the half way mark between 86dB and 92dB is actually about -3dB where zero (or 0) is the clipping point, so its very close and very loud. For normal recording outside of LV I would keep my recordings to -6dB maximum peak. So the 86dB figure is about -6dB on the full scale. Unfortunately when I...

Re: Speaker issues caused by Monterey update

I would go back to an earlier trusted OS rather than the latest one (which I guess this is). New operating systems take about 18 months to have all the problems corrected, so I would not go to a new one that had been out for at least a year and probably more.

Re: The Torrents of Spring, by E. Hemingway

Well, there is a certain amount of rubbish out there, and I've just abandoned a book that I had started to record (I had not yet officially started it as a book request). I recorded three chapters and then decided it was not worth carrying on. I have recorded other much better books by the same auth...

Re: How do I smooth out a cut into audio?

One tip that hasn't been mentioned is to make sure that your recording setup hasn't changed. This one might seem obvious to some, but it can make a huge difference. I mean things like where are you sitting? How far away from the mic? What direction is the mic pointed in? Things like that. If you ca...

Re: Newbie needing some guidance

I find that if I speak more quietly it not only sounds better but my voice lasts much longer and I can record several pages in one go . You need maybe to increase your gain a little to compensate for speaking quietly.

Yes it does. But I was looking on the link that takes one to the collection on LV.

Just tried it and its "404 page not found" when I click on your contribution.

Quite a humorous piece - if not rather eccentric!

Hi Peter, Everything is well on this side of the Atlantic, and I hope it is on your side too. Prof. Ayers was writing in 1920, and his views of Anglo-American history and relations reflected the world as it stood in the aftermath of WWI. In 2022--a hundred years later--some of what Ayers believed t...

Re: Calling all macro users

Personal opinion If you need to depend on all these things why bother reading at all - just use text to voice software. It would be a lot less work I prefer reading that sound like someone is reading me a story - I like hearing they are breathing not dead, I like the slight slowdown when they come ...

Re: The all-new "HELP! I have an Audacity problem" thread

I would not want to use a macro because I judge every gap between words in relation to the text. So one gap may be 1 second, another 0.5 sec and another 3 seconds. I also try and make the speed of a sentence vary with the context, and even have very short gaps such as 0.25 second, followed by 3.25 s...

Butting in here to say “milch cow” is used in England for a cow currently producing milk; and a firkin is a liquid measure… 1/2 barrel, I think. Especially used regarding beer. Ok, I’m going to crawl back under my rock 8-) A firkin is a unit of volume or mass used in several situations. Its etymolo...
