A few errors in the RSS feeds

Going through the RSS feeds I found a few errors: Book 6144 (Dramatic Reader for Lower Grades) has an extra "<a>" tag in the <reader> section: http://librivox.org/rss/6144; lineNumber: 29; columnNumber: 552; The element type "a" must be terminated by the matching end-tag "</...

[KNOWN ISSUE] Expired SSL Certificate

Apparently the certificate used to sign secure web pages has expired. This is especially a problem as all of the http pages redirect to https versions, including the catalog feeds. It would be great if this were fixed, or at least if the redirects were removed. Thanks!

Re: API oddities

That would make sense. It seems that every book has a number based one, but some don't have a title based one. Still, it's too bad that a lot of the number based ones don't have any info on the chapters.

Re: API oddities

More frustration. It turns out that some of the numbered URLs don't include the chapter data. For example:

Short Poetry Collection 80
http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/short-poetry-collection-080.xml - Has chapters
http://librivox.org/rss/3217 - Includes no chapters

Re: API oddities

I noticed that the same thing is true for the chapter titles. Sometimes one file will give proper chapter titles, and the other just gives a title based on the file name. I am experimenting with going exclusively to the number based RSS urls, as they seem to be better, but I need to do some testing ...

Re: API oddities

If there is no cover art, both of them point to a generic image: http://librivox.org/librivox_logo.jpg. I've also noticed that for some books there seems to be only one file - the one with the numbers. Also, for a lot of books, there is a cover image that shows up on the web site, but no image in ei...

API oddities

I was trying to figure out why I couldn't find images in the RSS feeds for some books that had them. I found this oddity to be true. If I used the search API, (http://librivox.org/newcatalog/search_xml.php?extended=1&simple=Austen) I am given an RSS url like: http://librivox.org/bookfeeds/after-...

Re: Looking for feedback on new Android App

Well I just put a new version up on Google Play. For this one, I have been concentrating mainly on making everything work as smoothly as possible, rather than adding new features. There are a few things you might enjoy, though. Readers (and play duration) are now listed on the chapter tab for each b...

Re: Looking for feedback on new Android App

Thanks for the great feedback! Regarding the colors, I wasn't saving the category information in the first version, so if you upgrade, you have to do a factory reset (and re-load the database) to see them. They will show up automatically on new installs. I had been meaning to tidy up that chapter se...

Re: Looking for feedback on new Android App

I went ahead and posted an updated version today. The main purpose was to include some enhancements to battery life, but I also implemented your suggestions regarding coloring the icons by category. I think it might be better if I swapped the logo for category icons, but designing good icons isn't e...

Re: Looking for feedback on new Android App

Thanks! I'm loading the pictures from the rss feeds, and it seems that most of them just have the standard logo. Recent books and German language books seem a bit better. I don't know if there is a better place to find chapter art. Also with the titles, for many books the RSS feed just gives a versi...

Re: Looking for feedback on new Android App

Thanks for the quick (and detailed) feedback! That will be a bit help refining things. I think you are right about the "new" in the description - I will have to think of an elegant way to say "recently released by LibriVox." The streaming options control whether the app prompts y...

Looking for feedback on new Android App

I just posted a new Android app for LibriVox to Google Play, and am looking for some feedback. If anyone has the time to look at it, I would appreciate any thoughts or suggestions for the next version. I am quite pleased with how it has come together so far, but I am sure other folks will see things...
