Thanks to both of you for your advice. I unplugged all other USB devices - no change. Then I unplugged the power source (on the macbook it attaches magnetically) and the background hum was substantially reduced. But my cheapo logitech wand (AK5370) sounds better still with no discernable background ...

I don't get the hum with the wand, just with the headset. You can see the hum on screen when I play back a sample, it looks like a very dark line instead of a faint one. So there may be something wrong with the headset? Or perhaps there is some setting that will solve this? Dunno. I get the same pro...

Logitech 350 headset annoying background hum

The subject line says it all - I thought I'd do a modest upgrade from my logitech USB mic that looks like a wand and sits on my desk. With the headset, volume levels are consistent but there's a very audible hum in the background. GRRR. I'm using Sound Studio software on a Macbook. Any advice? thank...

revised part 1

Hi TTM and all contributors, I finally got around to fixing the small pronunciation issues in the Mencken introduction. We have been dealing with a family illness and things have been hectic around here! I have sent the revised file to Gesine's uploader but note that it lacks the MP3 tags because th...

progress report

Hi TTM, I rerecorded the Wagner references for the introduction and I'm hoping to edit them into the recording in the next day or two. I also recorded about half of section 5 and hope to finish recording tomorrow. The main problem has been getting time by myself at home. Between the holidays and kid...

That's actually pretty good. Usually "gaping chasm" describes where I reside much of the time.

fijoas

I was curious about fijoas/figs so I checked my copy of Lost Princess. It's fijoas in the text too. Apparently it's a kind of fruit that is grown in New Zealand.

Thanks! I have been teaching historiography all semester - which involves a heavy dose of 19th century French, German and British philosophy - so I guess I'm in the groove. Actually, the hardest thing I've ever had to read was Jane Austen - some of her sentences go on forever. Beautifully constructe...

Thanks, I may have gotten a few of the foreign terms wrong; I won't take offense if I have to redo any of them. JB

Hi Rainer, Just checking in with a progress report. I signed on for a few chapters in collaborative projects (Nietzsche, Kant, etc.) and I've been busy with work and family so I let Master Key go for a few weeks. However, I am nearly done recording, lacking only two chapters. I put a post on the &qu...

You can put me down for section 14, what the heck?

Hi All, Section 1, the Mencken introduction, can be found at the following link. I haven't used this service before but for some reason, I have problems with yousendit. If there are any problems, I can upload to Gesine's uploader, yay! Download URL http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/198325/antichrist01...

Hi All, Thanks for your thoughtful responses, especially D. E. and Ticktockman. I guess I should have been more clear. I don't have a problem with the anti-semitism per se given the nature and periodization of this document. And obviously what Mencken said about Nietzsche is somewhat different from ...

Hi Tina, I just recorded a chapter called Little Bun Rabbit for a collaborative version of L. Frank Baum's Mother Goose in Prose. As it turns out, it is a very sweet story about a little rabbit who visits Santa Claus and models for him so he can make stuffed bunny toys for little children. It is abo...
