Re: compressor, normalize, clipping? for the "not-so-tech-savy"!

Recording narration is rather different to recording music where the dynamic range can be as much as 30dB plus. Narration is usually about 5-10dB dynamic range. It is to do with mic technique, in other words, not letting the voice produce extremes of loudness and quietness. If you need to shout, mov...

Re: Background noise

It is also important to record close miked as this emphasises the spoken word and minimises any room acoustics and background noise. When I say close miked, I mean 6-12 inches from the mic.* Also use plenty of gain and record at about -10dB or even -6dB. The use of duvets, blankets and sheets also r...

Re: Do you keep all your audio files?

I keep the 16 bit wav file of the finished story/book. Also often the MP3 file. I keep a copy of these also on the cloud in Dropbox. I do delete all of the working DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) files which amount to lots of Gigabytes. I can always re-edit or use the 16bit wav file if I need to. Pe...

Re: Short Story Collection Vol. 72 - lt

I've just started a book - so my contributions here may be a little slower or much reduced, you may be relieved to hear! I will of course produce the odd story for this collection or at worst for the next. Incidentally, my wife tells me I sound much better lying down in bed, so I thought I might hav...

Yes, we had this problem with the other books I recorded, I seem to remember. I was assured that the books even though written by other people, were all in PD.

Re: ~[SOLO] Mystery of the Ambush in India by Andy Adams - dlo

That would be fine as I'm probably going to be away at some point between mid July and end of August, but only for a few days. In the meantime I can get a few chapters recorded.

Many thanks

Re: Audioliterature and Audible

Peter, Do you really think that dozens of accounts closed (supposing for a minute that they actually will be closed) would make a dent in Amazon's profit margin? And what exactly would compel me to close my Amazon account? My moral objection to Audible's disregard of the fact that some of its subsc...

Re: Audioliterature and Audible

One way that Amazon (who I understand own Audible) may be persuaded to take Audible to heel would be for hundreds (or even just a few dozen) of Librivox members to complain to them over the alleged stealing and altering/making up a new name, and say that we will close our accounts with Amazon and no...
